"I like the fact that there are two towers, with their differences."

Interview with Véronique Bouet-Gérard, Head of WELL Working Environment program, Groupe BPCE.

What major innovations have been adopted in the BPCE Towers?

The working environment can be viewed from three perspectives: the physical workspaces, technology, and services. We have completely transformed our spaces to make them more adaptable, collaborative, and convivial. With the development of hybrid working practices, one of our priorities was to fit them out with all the comfort and IT equipment needed to ensure privacy, to hold meetings, and to connect easily and seamlessly. With regard to conviviality, we have installed easily adjustable ‘lounges’ on each floor. They make it easy for employees to meet with their colleagues over lunch or coffee as well as to convene informal meetings or hold training sessions. Some lounges feature cœur d’étages to conjure up a different atmosphere and offer yet another spatial typology. We have also drawn on the potential of new technologies by installing arrays of sensors that enable us to measure the occupancy of workstations or meeting rooms, or allow us to know how many people are in the company restaurant. We have also installed individual lockers and connected fridges, imagined new ways to order a meal in the company restaurant or reserve a parking space… In short, we have used the attributes of the ‘smart building’ not merely to boost efficiency but also to facilitate the daily lives of our employees. We have similarly developed new services for people working in the building (a wellness area and “Welcome bar”, for example) to promote their sense of well-being. These initiatives were the fruit of working groups organized in the project’s early stages and guided by feedback from existing buildings, on the principle of offering a minimum array of services per ‘quarter’ (our ten buildings in the Île-de-France region are divided into four districts or ‘quarters’).

What was your first impression of the BPCE Towers?

Given that I joined the project in 2020, I had the good fortune to discover the towers before they were finished. This meant that I was able to visit them regularly and track their development… right up until the moving-in phase. This is why I sort of feel that the towers are my ‘babies,’ an impression shared by a great many other members of the project team. I’m constantly amazed by the view, the amount of light in the building, the layout of the different spaces. We enjoy excellent working conditions without having to move away from Paris. I like the fact that there are two towers, with their differences, and that they fit in well with the architectural project of the 13th arrondissement of Paris. I’m also delighted that the towers support the pursuit of our company project by bringing together people from the Communauté BPCE and GFS, employees from our support functions and business lines. I also like the fact that the different areas allow everyone to change their working environments in line with their projects or desires. Of course, changing one’s habits is neither easy nor self-evident but I find that this new flexibility is a real advantage.

The building that fits into your hand

The notion of ‘smart building’ is one of the key principles of the WELL program, making it possible to optimize the use of spaces and services by providing occupants with mobile access to all the different everyday functions.

Here are just a few examples: have access to their virtual badge, Register their presence on site (and when teleworking) thanks to the ‘Anywhere’ application and find an available working space via the ‘Ariane’ application, logged to presence sensors placed in the building, Reserve a meeting room by scanning a QR code or via the ‘Ariane’ application. Other new habits are now part of everyday life: Open their lockers with their physical or virtual badges, Report an incident by scanning a QR code, Consult the menu in the staff restaurant and see how many people are already there, or order a meal using the ‘Ariane’ and ‘Foodi’ Access the wellness and concierge services via dedicated applications, and finding your way around the floors to find all these services.
