“We all have a role to play in reducing
our carbon footprint.”

Interview with Valérie Derambure, Head of CSR, Goupe BPCE, until january 2024.

What are the main CSR considerations
of the WELL program?

There are four main considerations. First, WELL is a program that sets out to reduce the carbon emissions generated by our activities. We are taking action on several fronts to achieve this goal, including the reduction in the size of the surface areas we occupy and having our buildings certified compliant with high environmental quality standards. We have also adopted a policy of extending the useful life of our equipment (computers, monitors), fully aware that more CO2 emissions are generated from manufacturing these devices than using them. What is more, in the WELL program, and in the BPCE Towers in particular, we have made a point of reusing as much of the existing furniture as possible in order, once again, to avoid the CO2 emissions generated by the manufacture of new items. The second CSR consideration is related to diversity and social inclusion. I’m thinking, in particular, of providing easy access to our buildings, of our use of the sheltered employment sector for the provision of services, and the choice of daytime cleaning to allow maintenance personnel to work decent hours. The third consideration concerns the quality of life at work. Our buildings are pleasant to work in, full of light, with lounges and cœurs d’étages on each floor where people can meet… There are concierge services, a gym, and we’ve invested heavily in catering to improve the quality of meals served on site. Finally, the last consideration concerns responsible purchasing: we are extremely vigilant with regard to our suppliers so that they themselves respect a list of predefined CSR criteria.

Do employees have a role to play?

As employees, I think we all have a role to play in reducing our carbon footprint. There are a number of small, so-called ‘eco-responsible’ gestures that we can all easily adopt. It’s a question of being eco-responsible in the choice and use of our equipment, in the use of digital technology, in how we travel between our homes and the office, or the modes of transportation we choose for business trips, in our consumption of energy (lighting, heating), in the management of our waste, etc.

What was your first impression of the BPCE Towers?

The towers are extremely pleasant spaces to live in; the atmosphere there is very different. The use of the ‘flex space’ model enables us to see one another and, as far as I’m concerned as a manager, I love being in the middle of the teams because it allows me to get a feeling of the atmosphere and identify any problems. It also allows you to break down silos within the company, both hierarchically and between teams. The employees interact more; we gain in efficiency.
