“A group of experts and employees at the heart of the program.”

Interview with Sophie Février, Head of the WELL Program.

What does the WELL program set out to achieve? What are its principal aspects?

The WELL program is a cross-functional initiative being rolled out throughout the scope of the group’s retail and global business lines. The program sets out to facilitate employees’ day-to-day activities by acting on all the different aspects of their environment including working methods, technologies, working spaces, and services. The program is being rolled out in the Greater Paris area, in other regions of France, and to other sites around the world. We have grouped the principal dimensions of WELL into three main categories that we have named: “WELL come” (focused on the questions of openness and working as a community), “WELL done” (efficiency and performance) and “be WELL” (CSR, the company’s commitments to the planet and focus on social issues, but also the commitments made by each of us as individuals).

How did you manage a program of this magnitude?

The most important thing for me was to set up an effective governance system from the project’s very inception. We have a lot of experts who are used to working together… but not necessarily at the same time. We therefore set up a program from the very outset that brings together all these different areas of expertise and encourages them to work collectively by involving all the business lines concerned – i.e., all the business lines of the Communauté BPCE and GFS. Our overriding basic principle was as follows: the experts provide us with the best of their know-how; the business lines then discuss this advice in Business Line Committee meetings before reaching a decision; decisions on the most fundamental organizational topics are taken by the Executive Management Committee.

What gives you the greatest sense of pride?

I’m very proud that we set up this group of experts – specialists in communications, change management, real estate, IT, CSR, human resources – and that we managed to put employees squarely at the heart of the program.

What was your first impression of the BPCE Towers?

My first impression was admiration before this amazing feat of engineering. It’s spectacular to see the East Tower standing so close to the Paris ring road and for the end result to turn out as perfectly as planned! Since we moved into the building, I’ve been amazed at how bright the offices are, at the quality of the acoustics, and the unique view of Paris enjoyed from the tower. But it’s above all the people working in these towers who will instill them with life and cause them to change over time.
